Flip the Scrip on 2020
I want to switch the focus of 2020. As soon as March/COVID hit and we went into immediate shutdown. We were told we were not able to leave our home, see your loved ones, or do anything fun. Our life went quiet. We took the time to adapt, we were fine for a few weeks and maybe even months, but then something flipped. We are started to get mad and write off 2020. There was even a popular song that came out, F*** 2020. People started posting all the negative things that continued to happen to them. We all basically got on the same page of forgetting 2020 and just jumping to 2021.
Can I be honest? How terrible was 2020 really? Yes, we hit a global pandemic (something crazy and unpredicted) But other than that, what really sucked? So, you had to spend more time at home, you had to rely on the technology that was ALREADY developed so we could continue our jobs and see family. Now don’t get me wrong there are many negative things that have happened. People lost their jobs, small businesses lost months of revenue, we all went into mental darkness. But there are also some positives that came from 2020.
I made a list of the top 10 positives that I have experienced since the beginning of 2020.
- Time with God- I was able to take more time in the mornings to refocus and read my bible
- Time with My Husband- we learned SO much about each other during this time. I feel like it set us up for a better future.
- Connect with my team- the relationship I built with my coworkers during this time was life-changing. They are a big reason we made it through quarantine.
- Connected with my family- I was able to take a much-needed vacation to see my family, I also talked to them more than I had previously.
- I am able to identify the negative/ busy jobs- before quarantine I had a FULL schedule, I was always busy. Phil and I had talked about it multiple times, but I never knew what to get rid of, plus I never knew what it was like to slow down. Now I do and I want to get rid of the activities/items that fill up my schedule.
- I learned self-love- I took the time to read, taught myself more about makeup and fashion. But also body positivity and eating right.
- I learned a new hobby- in the same vein as self-love. Use to love to run but I was unable to do an old cheer injury, so I took up biking. I LOVE it. I go biking at least 2 times a week.
- I had time to start writing my book- Yes, I will hopefully be writing a book about growing up with a disorder/finding our value in God. I am in the beginning stages- but still moving forward with it.
- Perfecting my ministry- I was able to build my social media base. But I think my greatest accomplishment in this, was connecting with my volunteers. I was able to take the time to connect with them. I also feel like I was able to take this time to focus on what I wanted to get out of my preteen ministry.
- Clean- I know to some of you this seems silly. But I love to organize and clean. When things are a mess, I feel like my life is also a mess. Plus, cleaning is very therapeutic for me. I was able to clean and organize multiple spaces in my house.
What are your top 10 positives of 2020? I challenge you to take the time to really think about all the good things 2020 has brought you.
I love what our pastor shared in a meeting this week, God does so much in time of rest. Think about all the people who were in exile. They had the time to calm down and seek God. They had quiet moments to listen, learn, and explore.
God uses exile to change and develop you.
How has God used this exile for His glory?
